Maritime security experts to gather at London cyber security conference

Press release

12 December 2017

Leading security experts will gather in London in early 2018 to explore how the global maritime industry can better protect itself against cyber attacks.

Taking place on March 13th & 14th 2018 at the Marriot Regents Park Hotel the Cyber Senate Maritime Cyber Security conference will explore how the industry can identify potential security weaknesses in its infrastructure and develop a cohesive response that will allow key Maritime infrastructure to be protected.

The two-day conference, will include multiple panel discussions and Q&A opportunities. Key topics to be discussed include managing supply chain and third party risk, incident response, public and private information sharing, the potential for new regulation, developing security operation centres and developing intelligence feeds.

The discussion will also centre around  many of the operational issues surrounding managing cyber security, such as defining objectives, getting buy-in from the C-Suite, developing a culture of awareness and addressing the skills gap.

Attendees will also hear first-hand case studies of cyber attacks against the sector and how IT and Operational Technology experts across the Ports, Shipping and Logistics industries are working together in order to respond to and mitigate against evolving threats.

Key speakers will include:

·      Peter Adsett, IT Manager & Certified Ethical Hacker, MOL LNG

·      Rafael Company, R&D Project Manager, Valanciaport Foundation

·      Professor Chris Johnson, Head of Computing, University of Glasgow

·      Chris Werner, Director Marine & Quality, E.R. Schiffahrt

·      Dharmesh Rathod, Group Chief Information Security Officer, Adani Group

·      Dr Ioannis Filippopoulos, Head of ICT/IS, Angelicoussis Group

·      Colin Gillespie, Deputy Director (Loss Prevention), The North of England P&I Association Limited

·      Patrick Putman, Chief Information & Innovation Officer, DP World Antwerp

·      Joost Rommelaere, CIO, PSA Antwerp NV

·      Erik Ingolf Tvedt, Special Adviser & Technical Regulation Naval Architect, Danish Maritime Authority

Discussing the event, James Nesbitt, the founder of the Cyber Senate, which specialises in organising sector-specific events about all aspects of international cyber security, said: “The increasing shift towards digitization will undoubtedly increase efficiency and operational performance in the maritime sector but will also greatly increase its vulnerability to cyber attacks, with potentially catastrophic effects.

“The scope and nature of cyber threats is constantly evolving and this means that  knowledge needs to be constantly renewed in order to stay one step ahead. However, this conference will help IT and operational technology specialists get to grips with what the risks are to their maritime business and what their organisation should be doing to address them – now and in the future.”

In addition to the Maritime Cyber Security conference, Cyber Senate will also be simultaneously hosting the 3rd Annual Rail Cyber Security Summit – aimed at IT and operational specialists in the rail industry – at the same venue.
